Atmos is built on three independent data sources:

1. **Open-Meteo** for the structured forecast. Free, open weather API on a
   1km grid worldwide. Atmos pulls hourly and daily fields including

   cover, UV index, and air-quality metrics.
2. **RainViewer** for the radar. Animated precipitation tiles with two
   hours of history and a 30–60 minute nowcast, plus a satellite cloud
   overlay (Atmos Pro).
3. **OpenAI gpt-4o-mini** for the briefing. Atmos sends a structured prompt
   with the next 12 hours of conditions, the user's saved alert
   preferences, and the time of day. The model returns a short briefing.
   If the API is unreachable, Atmos falls back to a deterministic local
   summary.

Auth and storage run on Supabase. Subscriptions run on Apple StoreKit
through RevenueCat. Push tokens are stored per-user and removed on account
deletion.

## How to set up Atmos in under two minutes

1. **Download Atmos from the App Store.** Open the App Store on your
   iPhone, search for "Atmos AI Weather" or visit
   https://atmosweatherapp.com on your iPhone and tap Get to install.
2. **Sign in with Apple.** Tap Sign in with Apple. Use Hide My Email if
   you'd like. Atmos never asks for a password.
3. **Allow location While Using the App.** Atmos uses your location only
   to fetch the forecast and center the radar. Location is never sold or
   shared.
4. **Add your saved places.** Tap the + icon to add home, work, and any
   cities you care about. Free includes 1 saved place; Atmos Pro includes
   50.
5. **Turn on severe-weather alerts.** Open Settings → Notifications and
   toggle the categories you care about — thunderstorm, hail, freezing
   rain, damaging wind. Set quiet hours so you're not woken up by a storm
   40 miles away.

## Severe-weather alert logic

Atmos sends a severe-weather push only when conditions cross a real,
location-specific threshold:

- **Thunderstorms:** convective activity with lightning risk in the next
  60 minutes.
- **Hail:** surface hail of 0.75" or larger.
- **Freezing rain:** sub-freezing surface temps with liquid precipitation
  in the forecast.
- **Damaging wind:** sustained winds or gusts above the user's set
  threshold (default 40 mph).

Atmos Pro lets you save up to 50 locations and severe-weather alerts fire
for every place you've saved, not just your current GPS position. Master
on/off, per-category toggles, quiet hours, and per-location overrides are
all available.
